What is the Investor Pass?

- Explore or manage investments and business opportunities
Who is Eligible?
Foreign investors fall under three main categories:
- New Investors – No prior investments in Malaysia
- Investors in the Pipeline – Engaged with MIDA or in active negotiations
- Existing Investors – Already own Malaysian-registered companies but not employed in Malaysia
Qualifying Sectors & Roles
- Open to all economic sectors for new and pipeline investors
Manufacturing and selected services sectors for existing investors (subject to MIDA approval) - Applicable for individuals in roles such as business founders, company directors, shareholders, and C-suite executives
Key Requirements
- Must be 18 years and above
Clean record with Immigration and Royal Malaysian Police - Currently employed by a company in the investor’s home country
- Must not hold other Malaysian long-term passes
- Passport must be valid for at least 6 months
- Cannot be involved in local employment activities
How to Apply?
Applications must be submitted outside Malaysia via the Xpats Gateway system. The process involves:
- Application submission with required documents
- Obtaining a Support Letter from MIDA
- Final approval by the Immigration Department of Malaysia
Processing Time:
- MIDA Support Letter: Within 3 working days
- Immigration Approval: Within 2 working days
Validity & Extension
- Investor Pass is valid for up to 12 months (6 months at a time)
- Reapplication is allowed to utilize the remaining 6-month period
- Extensions must be applied for at least 30 days before expiry
Fees & Notes
- MIDA Support Letter is free of charge
- Immigration fees apply (approx. RM1,296 + RM590 + visa fee)
- No dependents are allowed under the Investor Pass
- Not convertible directly into employment unless re-applied under relevant pass
